Why Art?

Sometimes words aren’t enough. You might have a feeling or a sense of something important, yet struggle to express it verbally. Art therapy offers another language — one made of colour, texture, movement and image — to give shape to what feels hidden or hard to explain.

Before we could speak, we could touch, see and feel. Many of our deepest experiences come from this pre-verbal stage of life, which the thinking mind can’t easily recall or describe. Art-based psychotherapy helps access these layers safely and creatively, allowing insight and healing to emerge without becoming overwhelming.

Through colour, form, sound, metaphor or movement, we can work with emotions that feel out of reach — whether rooted in trauma, anxiety, or self-doubt. Creative expression allows these feelings to be contained, explored and understood in a way that supports growth and self-awareness. It provides a bridge to your unconscious — helping you reconnect with yourself, integrate your experiences, and move towards a fuller, more grounded life.

In my sessions, I offer a range of art materials and creative processes — including paint, pastels, clay, collage, sand tray, found objects, music, movement and voice. No artistic skill or experience is required. The aim isn’t to make art, but to use creativity as a tool for reflection, healing and emotional freedom.

If you’re seeking trauma-informed art therapy online in the UK or London, this approach can help you explore your inner world safely and meaningfully.
